Not sure which level is right for your child? This placement test is designed to help coordinators and teachers find the most appropriate starting point for any new student joining the Abjad Academy programme.
Who Needs a Placement Test?
Children aged 3 to 6 do not need a placement test. They join Pre-KG, KG or level one based on their age.
The placement test is for students aged 7 and above who are joining the programme and whose Arabic level is unknown. It takes no more than 15 minutes and covers reading and writing only.
How the Test Works
The test is progressive, it starts at the beginning and the student works through each section until they can no longer answer correctly. You stop there, and that is their level.
Each section targets a specific level, from Bridge 1 all the way through to Level 9. The results table inside the test tells you exactly where to place the student based on their score.
Children aged 7 are placed using one set of results. Children aged 8 and above use a separate results table, this is because older beginners with no Arabic background are directed to the Bridge levels rather than Level 1.
Who Delivers the Test?
The test is delivered by the coordinator or teacher, whoever is responsible for the student’s placement. It is a one-to-one oral and written assessment. The teacher reads instructions aloud in Arabic, observes the student’s responses, and marks the score in the test sheet.
No special training is required to administer the test. The instructions for the teacher are printed clearly inside the document alongside every exercise.
When to Use It
Run the placement test before the student joins a class, ideally before the academic year begins or at the point of enrolment. If a student joins mid-year, run the test before placing them in a group.
The test is a guidance tool, not a final judgement. If after two or three weeks in class you feel a student has been placed too high or too low, trust your professional judgement and move them to the level that fits.
